Limited Release
To celebrate our newest release, we invited DnD_draws, the artist behind the cover to share the story of the world he is building.
The World Came First
Before
the characters. Before the story. Before I even knew what I was building — the
world came first.
I
started with a question I couldn't stop thinking about. What if the things you
feel weren't just invisible? What if they existed — right there, alongside you,
seen by everyone?
That
question became Huri.
Huri
is a world that looks and breathes like something familiar. The streets carry
weight. The people carry history. And beneath all of it runs a system — not of
governments or armies, but of emotion. In Huri, what you feel can manifest as
something living. Something real. Something that cannot be hidden no matter how
hard you try.
They're
called Nare.
A
Nare isn't a superpower. It isn't a weapon. It's the truest expression of your
internal state — the part of you that exists whether you want it to or not.
Some people learn to live with theirs. Some spend their whole lives trying to
suppress it. And some discover that the world has been quietly, deliberately
trying to erase it.
This
is the world Duke grows up in. A
young artist arriving at campus for the first time, carrying more than just his
bags. He comes from Kutano — a place where Nare are understood as something
sacred. He arrives in Nyirobi, where they are monitored, classified, and
controlled.
He
arrives performing. Confident on the outside. Something else entirely
underneath.
That's
where the story begins.
About the person making this.
I'm
DnD_draws. I'm an artist still figuring out what that means.
I've
been drawing for as long as I can remember — but telling a story this big, this
personal, this mine? That's new territory. And I won't pretend it isn't terrifying.
FRESHA
is semi-autobiographical. I'll leave it at that for now. What I will say is
that this story exists because I finally stopped waiting for permission to tell
it. Because I spent a long time making work for other people's approval and not
enough time making work that was true.
I'm
making this comic for every artist who has a story sitting inside them that
they've convinced themselves isn't worth telling. The one that feels too
personal, too niche, too risky, too much.
It's
worth telling.
Your
story is worth telling.
FRESHA
is me proving that to myself — one chapter at a time. I hope it does something
for you too.
